Flight from an emissary

An angel is pursuing a man through the streets of a great city. The angel wishes to speak with the man and follows him closely. It is waiting for the man to turn and listen. It will only speak when the man is ready to hear what it has to say.

The man does not want to hear the message. He flees from hiding place to hiding place so as to avoid meeting with the angel.

The angel is patient. It follows and does not speak. If it so wished it could call out what it has to say, or paint it on the walls. It has every advantage over the man but it does not speak. It waits on the man's decision.

The man arrives at the edge of the city and sees how it ends in a desolate plane. With nowhere else to hide, the man enters the last building and searches through its passages, he finds the furthest room and locks himself inside. He has arrived at the edge of where he is. Beyond it, somewhere else begins.

Angels sent by the devil find out men and women to offer them what they most desire. Angels sent by god present men and women with the gift of a difficult message.

The angel passes through the door and stands before the man. It says, 'your refusal to listen has now become all of your life. Is this what you wanted?'

The man turns his face from the angel, ‘if I cannot leave this room, then I will flee deeper into myself. I will not listen to your message.’

'You have already heard it,' said the angel.
